1220 East 12th Street is a modern & certified LEED Platinum home located adjacent to the second largest Burr Oak tree in Kansas. Unobstructed glazing on the East side of the dwelling unit maximizes views of the tree & Brook Creek Park. Both the 1,500 SF primary dwelling & the 500 SF accessory dwelling are built using recycled, re-purposed, & environmentally conscious materials & fixtures. Orchestrated under the instruction of our professor, Dan Rockhill, our cohort made up of 16 students & I obtained permits, designed, built, & fabricated the house on our own as our master's degree thesis project. We spent two months designing, & seven months under construction, to have a sustainable home on the market for sale in May 2018. My specific roles for this project included creating/maintaining the project & construction schedule, assisted with drawings & FEMA documentation for permitting, & lead the efforts of the design in all of the restrooms, kitchen, & general interiors.
